An historical detour: the dolmen of Le Pouget

According to the specialists the Dolmen of Le Pouget is one of the most beautiful and impressive dolmens of the south of France.It is composed of a 6 meters long sepulchral room with sidewalls made of local shell-shaped tuff and 3 big blocks as cover.

The dolmen and its barrow crown the top of a domeshape hillock. From there the view broadens on one side on the valley of the River Hérault and on the Larzac and on the other side on the Garrigue and on the Sea.

These graves were built by tribes without names,coming from the East pursing the sun in direction of the Ocean where the sun sets. They have always excited the imagination and given rise to tales and popular legends.
